Looking back is looking through a dusty sunset over hot streets and through misty tenement windows, the sting of violence in the air as shocking as a cold spray from a busted hydrant. Life divides into two states; what I knew then, and what I know now. There’s a world of light and dark between them, and I like to think I had the skills to cross over and back again, but I was maybe just lucky. I saw more than the darkness of people’s skins, I saw the darkness within them too. I also saw a whole lot of light, some of it as blinding as the truth…
Remember when you were a kid and you first saw that person you wanted to be? It all comes down to that one defining moment. I can tell you stuff I’ve read about famous dude’s from music to gangsters and priests to thieves.
