A romantic adventure with a serious social message
Normanda Whyte is one of Malaysia's most talented writers, and she brings a deft hand to this romantic thriller with a hard-hitting theme - spousal abuse. It's dark subject matter, to be sure, but Whyte handles it with with just the right amount of humour, soulfulness and sensitivity. Her prose is sharp and sensual, and she carves out a fascinating plot that's powerful, uplifting and triumphant. And, yes, the sex is page-meltingly good!

A definite must for lovers of unconventional romance stories.

Got this a couple of months ago ... not normally my taste, but gave it a look.
Felt a bit rough around the edges at the start, was quite hooked after reading on past the first chapter.
Strong story line, well worth the read ... and a nice bit of rough around the edges.

Keeps You Guessing Throughout
Blackmail Bride is a story set in Scotland focusing on the lives of the Welsh twins, Jack and Greg (Jack in particular), who own and run a hotel in the rural surroundings of the Highlands.

The story opens with Jack being released from prison having been set up by his now ex-girlfriend’s brother, Malcolm, who has some serious psychotic and mental issues, with violent tendencies towards his ex-wife Lucy.

Jack is set for revenge, and with the help of Lucy, who blackmails him into protecting her from her dangerous ex-husband, they formulate a plan to bring down Malcolm and clear Jack’s name.

Both Jack and Lucy depend on each other emotionally and throughout the book we see evidence of how prison has turned Jack from an amiable, happy go lucky guy, into a bitter, angry and untrusting man. Lucy’s story is far more disturbing. The savage beatings and psychological torture has left her dependent on daily medication and on the verge of admission into a mental care institution.

The development of their relationship is touching and the book evidences how they grow to love one another and begin to see life positively, having given each other hope.

The plot weaves its way to an appropriate conclusion, which I won’t spoil, but leaves the reader with a few unanswered questions, especially regarding Jack’s ex-girlfriends intentions and how seemingly straightforward it was to frame Jack.

A good read that keeps you guessing throughout.

Fun Read for a Cold Night
Jack leaves prison a somewhat embittered man. The last thing he expects to do is rescue his enemy's ex-wife. His not so subtle attempt at revenge by marrying Lucy backfires when he begins to fall for her. There is plenty of action and drama as Lucy tries to help Jack prove his innocence. I liked the character development too, as Lucy begins to fight against her abusive background and attempts to conquer her fears. This is a fun read for a cold winter's night.
